Selfridges & Co. is a chain of high end department stores in the United Kingdom; it was founded by Harry Gordon Selfridge. The flagship store in London’s Oxford Street is the second largest shop in the UK (after Harrods) and opened on March 15th 1909. Selfridges enlisted architect Alex Cochrane to redesign their menswear department store and the honed Caldia marble was the material chosen to be installed on the new floor. A total of 264 hexagonal pieces (with a radius of 635 mm) were cut starting from 2 cm slabs to cover an area of approximately  280 square meters.
